Kuta, Bali – It is that time of the year again. Rip Curl Surf & Music Festival, Bali's Biggest Boardsports and Free Beach Concert will light up World Famous Kuta beach Halfway, on October 20th and 21st 2012.
Last year this event successfully gathered thousands of surf, skate and music lovers at Kuta Beach - Bali. With an award-winning line-up of bands and DJs to close the surf finale of the ISC Tour and the National Finals of the Rip Curl GromSearch, this year's festival is bound to be another epic event.
The finals at Halfway is the last stop of the 2012 ISC Pro Tour and Indonesia's best surfers are sure to bring their A-Game for the final clash of the season. As usual the Rip Curl Surf & Music Festival provides their stage for determining the overall ISC Tour champion of the year. Current ISC ratings leader Lee Wilson will have his hands full to stay ahead of the field with local boys Pepen Hendriks in second place on the tour rankings and Raditya “Cabul” Rondi lying in third and determined to retain his Open title he won at last year’s event.
Besides the ISC Pro Finals, the stage is set for the SE Asia Rip Curl GromSearch series Finals to be held in conjunction with this event. After all the regional GromSearch contests held in Java, Sumbawa, Bali and Thailand, fired-up groms from their respective regions will be ready to compete against each other under the spotlight in front of massive crowds. The top groms from the region includes Thai grommets from Kata Beach where the GromSearch contest was just held last month.
Each Grom will be ready to fight for the Rip Curl GromSearch SE Asia Crown and the prestigious all expenses paid ticket to the Rip Curl GromSeach World Finals, held alongside the Rip Curl Pro ASP World Tour event at Australia's legendary Bells Beach next year.
The ten winning groms who will be representing their regions at the National Finals will be:
Thailand: Annissa Flynn, Sonny Perrussel;
Lakey Peak Sumbawa: Andre Anwar and Bomar Arya Prasetya;
Pacitan Java: Dian Butut Hardianto and Supriyanto;
Bali: Reju Sena and Koko Mitsua.
Another boardsport on showcase at Halfway Beach during the Surf & Music Festival is skateboarding. Indonesia's top skaters will be competing head-to-head in the skateboard competition on a specially designed mobile skate park set up on the beach-front which will include street obstacles including rails and fun boxes. All the competitors will be going hard during this comp to win the crown of Surf and Music Festival champion 2012 so make sure you are there to watch all the action as it goes down.
Band Line-up and Schedule
Following the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, the evening will come to a close with performances by an a-list of bands and DJs. Starting at 6 pm the evening is going to be one to remember with the following line-up:
Souljah was formed back in 1998. Initially the band was named Arigatoo, but after the music that they produced expanded, they finally decided to change the name into Souljah in 2005. Still under the name of Arigatoo, they have produced some compilation albums. One with Authority Records from Japan, titled “Asian Ska Foundation” in 2003 and another one with Sony Music Indonesia, titled “Ska Mania” in 2000. In 2003 Arigatoo released a full album titled “Kami Bukan Perawan Lagi” (We're Not Virgins Anymore). Later in 2005 they released Souljah’s first album, entitled "Breaking The Roots", with hit single “Jamaica's Away”. In 2006, Souljah released a second album, titled "Bersamamu" (To Be With You), with the hit single “Bersamamu”. At the moment, Souljah’s albums are distributed only in Indonesia, but for you who live outside Indonesia, it is possible to buy Souljah’s songs on iTunes.
Stars and Rabbit
Stars and Rabbit is an Indonesian folk music duo formed in early 2011 in Yogyakarta. The group consists of singer-songwriter Elda Suryani and musician Adi Widodo. Their single “Worth It”, as part of the indie pop/folk scene, attracted attention in a small variety of communities in Indonesia and the United Kingdom. Stars and Rabbit has a do-it-yourself approach towards writing and recording. Their music is a fusion of pop and folk influenced with a raw simplicity of composition, arrangement and performance.
First established in 1996, on the 30th of September. Consisting of a group including the young Aldonny, Heru, Dicky and Hendra, they try to make their grief to life known through music. The former name of the band was Mutant X, named after their favorite song. Over time they felt that the name was not Indonesian enough and eventually decided to name the band Jeruji to represent them when called to the stage.
Painful By Kisses
We are bringing you a new form of punkrock music mixed with metal. Ranging from Old-Skool to New-Skool, we call our music Painstortion. Established in 2005 and we have already conquered many gigs in and out of Bali.
Mom Called Killer
Mom Called Killer a.k.a. MCK formed on 20 October 2007 in Denpasar. The formation consists of five great rock spirits, Adith Sodden (vocals), Edi (bass), Gus the Great (Guitar), Dewaadi (Guitar) and Wika (Drums) and this set up results in a band with a strong metal character. Ever since the band was founded, MCK was heavily influenced by metal bands such as As I Lay Dying, Unearth, Chimaira, Cavalera Conspiracy, Opeth and more in the same genre. When listening to their songs many elements of these bands shine through, ranging from tight drums together with guitar distortion and heavily vowel sounding basses.
